On August 22-23, 2016, the training of mass media representatives will be first held in Astana on the subject: “Working with Open Data”.
The event is hosted by National Information Technologies JSC and the Representative Office of Internews Network in Kazakhstan, in the premises of Central Communications Service of MIC of the RK.
The seminar program includes both theory classes and practical master classes on working with the open data portal conducted by Internews Network experts and the staffs of central Asian lead media.
The open data portal (data.egov.kz) is an Open Government’s key component where government agencies’ data is published in machine-readable format. In processing and analyzing the portal information, it may be efficiently used in multiple spheres, including in journalism.
Data-journalism refers to usage of publicly available information as multiple reports, statistics, etc. to create materials, which, however, requires having some technical skills. Therefore, during the training, the mass media will both get familiarized with basics of data journalism and open data processing principles, and learn how to visualize the data using online services and applications.
Date and time: August 22-23, 2016, 10:00 to 19:00 with lunch break.
Venue: KazMediaCenter building, 21st floor (4 Kunayev str., Astana).
